Do you want to build a snowman ...craftfail

Image
Over the winter break I have all sorts of play dates, outings, and craft time lined up to keep my two boys (5 and 8) busy. With to much time on their hands they either fight with each other over silly things like looking at each other funny or I hear Mom Mom MOM MOMMMMMY! ! Today I wanted to try to make a cute Snowman made from an egg carton. There was a cute photo step by step floating through facebook for weeks and I was excited to try with my 5 Year old... I knew I needed to start with good scissors and I carefully cut each little egg carton compartment out...  Hmmm. My egg cartons have holes where they join.... and the photo tutorial had this perfect and larger shaped compartments.... No problem maybe so tape can help things..... My son had fun taping! But at this point we were pretty sure this was not going to turn into the adorable snowman we wanted... but why not add a little paint..... Yea...... we were right this was a craft fail... my son said not to

Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing

Image
I had to write about a religious song for my Philosophy of Religion class and I wanted to share what I wrote with all of you! I love the idea of digging deeper into what the hymns we sing every week mean. Comment below and let me know your favorite Hymn. Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing It’s funny how something written by a 22 year old pastor to enhance his sermon in the 1700s is a song we still can relate to today. Come Thou Fount of Every blessings is in hymnals, and sung by modern Christian artists today because it has timeless themes. On the musical Analysis  side it is very easy to learn because it uses chords that are easy to sing in tune and find. It starts on tonic, and directly goes to the dominant chord. You also get the subdominant chords and that is the variety you get in most hymns. Singability is important in a good hymn because the congregation needs to be able to sing it   The song is about grace, Christ’s love for us and the fact we are human and are go

God is like a pencil sharpener

While I was driving my 3rd grade son to his 2nd day of school he looked at his new sharpener and came up with what I think is a great analogy. Children can just blow your mind away with things that they say. What would your child say God is like?

Guardians of the Galaxy ... movie review from a christian parent perspective

Image
For those that don't know Gardians of the Galaxy is a new off beat type super hero movie that came out this weekend. It is in the Marvel ( Avengers, Hulk, Captain America, Iron man, Thor...) universe and will tie in with the next Avengers movie however this one is different. I personally enjoyed the movie, and I eagerly await the next one. However with my Christian mommy eyes would I allow my children ages 5 and almost 8 watch it? No! I did allow them to see the avengers and iron man at home where I could fast forward through parts but this movies has several things about it that make it clearly for adults or children over 13... hence the pg13 rating **spoiler alert don't read on if you don't want to know details about the movie*** 1. The first scene has the main character as a young boy and you see him lose his mom to an illness .... This can upset most children but you know your child best, it's a peaceful passing and not violent. 2. The super heros are far

Jeremiah 29:11- weekly bible verse -week 1

Image
I picked this verse because it's one that I like to think of when I am stressed about the future. This past week especially when  I discovered my  financial  aide seems to not have gone through on time so I may be stuck paying all my tuition plus books and be issued a refund at the end of next month....For me right now that's stressful because college, isn't cheap and of course I have to buy all sorts of back to school supplies for both of my boys at the same time. However the Lord knows what he wants for me and when, everything is, is in his time not mine.  It's funny as i just typed those words I thought of my church's VBS theme "In God's Time" I spent over half my day crafting all sorts of things for it, including cutting fabric letters to spell this phrase out. How fitting that I would have these words in front of me when I am stressed out and in need of the comfort in knowing that God has it covered... it may be be when and what I want but he

Minion cupcakes, embracing non violent shows for my children

Image
My children have been on a minion spree lately and love love love when I play this video from Youtube which has the minions being minions to "Happy". Having 2 boys, its hard to find shows they want to watch and characters they want to be like that don't have violence in them. Super Heros are great and all but I've found by limiting those toys and shows they behave better. Children love to copy what they see, so when a non violent movie comes out I like to think of fun ways to encourage it. So insert these fun cupcakes which I found on Pinterest... .........and thought hmmm easy enough... But before you tell your children and start to make awesome minions let me share with you what worked and what didn't! To start I used the following ingredients: Cup cake wrappers funfetti cupcake mix ( or any mix and what ever the mix calls for) Funfetti frosting ( or any frosting, also my boys alway like to help me color the frosting and or batter with food color

I am not your traditional Lutheran Mom, I am an everyday person who isn't perfect, trying to provide the best I can for my 2 boys. I used to be in what seemed like a great relationship with my children's father. We owned a home, I worked part time as the children's choir director at my church, we went to family and community events......however things were not black and white, they were not always what they seemed. It was a hard decision to make but I know God didn't want me in an unhealthy relationship that left me feeling like I was worth nothing. The day I left all sorts of doors opened up for me, things happen that only would if God was making it happen. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways. I now have returned to college to finish a music AA and I hope to get a BA in worship arts next. I also run a successful blog, Crochet Chiq  which helps me to provide for my family. In this blog I plan to share everyday type life events,  mom tips, crafts and reviews of prod
